Go Woke Go Broke – US Women’s Soccer Team Knocked Out Of World Cup

The United States women’s soccer team lost an embarrassing penalty shootout to rival Sweden, and as a result, they have been eliminated from the 2023 World Cup.

The USWNT was eliminated from a World Cup earlier than ever before.

Megan Rapinoe’s penalty shot shank was the deciding factor in this horrible defeat for the anti-American US women’s soccer team.  Poor penalty taking was evident from both teams, with numerous players—including Team USA outlier Megan Rapinoe—missing the mark. Sweden won the shootout in sudden death after the US goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury originally saved a poor penalty that they were awarded. She was still able to miss the ball as it trickled into the goal. Sweden won their match against Japan and advanced to the Quarterfinals.

After a strong beginning, Team USA never seemed to be in complete control. With a 3-0 victory over Vietnam, the four-time champions started their quest for a third consecutive World Cup victory. After their opening victory, the team lost steam rapidly, drew poorly against the Netherlands, and only advanced out of the Group Stages thanks to a scoreless draw against Portugal, who were playing in their first World Cup. With five points, the United States placed second in Group E, which was their lowest point total in World Cup history.

After today’s defeat, Megan Rapinoe’s appearance in a Team USA shirt at an international match is most likely over. At the conclusion of this season, the seasoned soccer player intends to retire.

“I’m really happy for us that we went out like that, playing the way we did [against Sweden], having a ton of joy on the ball,” she said after the game. “This is like a sick joke for me personally, this is a dark comedy that I missed a penalty. This is the balance to the beautiful side of the game.”
